It is Beginning to Look a lot like . . . “Christmas Train Sale”

It’s beginning to look a lot like ….

The Community Waterfront Heritage Centre is holding a fundraising sale of vintage, handmade and pre-loved Christmas decorations in the historic 1932 CNR station. All proceeds from the sale of the items will support CWHC and local heritage preservation.

CWHC has been accepting donations of Christmas décor from members of the public and local businesses.

The Christmas Train event is Saturday November 18, 2017 from 10 am to 4 pm.

Live music provided by Heather & Doug Brown, The

Brown’s Musical Time Machine, of Meaford.

Have you got the tree up?

If you find you have more Christmas decor than you need, don’t pack it away —  consider donating it to CWHC- for next year’s Christmas Train fundraising sale. Donations of handmade and gently used Christmas decorations are gratefully accepted, please call ahead to arrange for drop-offs.

Giving Tuesday — CWHC Kitchen Kampaign.

Today, November 29, is known globally as Giving Tuesday (the day after cyber Monday). Perhaps you want to be involved too in giving to a charity.

Our Dining Car Kitchen Refurbishment project will move forward because the CWHC received word from the Community Foundation Grey Bruce on October 14th that we were the recipients of a $12,000 capital grant for the renovation of the Dining Car kitchen.

The total project includes replacing the kitchen walls, ceiling, and flooring and fully equipping the kitchen with new appliances and kitchen equipment. When completed, this project will provide us with a fully fitted, fully functional, Public Health approved, Dining Car kitchen facility.  [update October 2017: work still in progress so it will likely be spring 2018 before the needed work is complete.]

Our long-term financial goal is self-sustainability. The Dining Car will provide the CWHC with badly needed additional display space, a unique meeting space that can be rented out to other groups, and a source of revenue.

While the CFGB capital grant is terrific news, we still need to raise $10,000 to purchase the kitchen appliances and kitchen equipment that a “generic” kitchen requires. This is your opportunity to help us reach this goal by January 31, 2017, by making a donation to the CWHC Kitchen Kampaign.

Make cheques payable to the Community Waterfront Heritage Centre and put CWHC Kitchen Kampaign in the memo line. If you wish to donate online through the Canada Helps link on our website, click the donate button. It will take you directly to “our page”. You can also go to the Canada Helps Site from this link

Fill in the amount of your gift and note in the message area, CWHC Kitchen Kampaign. To ensure that your gift is designated to this special fundraising project, send an email to info@waterfrontheritage.ca to let us know.

If you wish to get a tax receipt for 2016, be sure to donate before December 31st.

Thank you to everyone who supports the ongoing work of the Community Waterfront Heritage Centre.

The Dining Car Servicing Project is now complete!

Funded by a generous $30,000 Ontario Trillium Foundation (OTF) Capital grant received by the CWHC in May 2016, we are pleased to announce that the Dining Car Servicing Project has been successfully completed on time and on budget!Ontario Trillium Foundation

This project had three separate distinct phases:

  1. the installation of water and sewer services by Riddell Contracting;
  2. the installation of electrical services by Dunn Electric;
  3. and the construction of the station decking extension to the Dining Car by T.McComb Sawmill.

The only visible parts of this project are the water and sewer connection points located under the Dining Car, the new electrical meter on the waterfront side of the car and the beautiful new decking extension from the station to the car, complete with a wide step to make access to the car easier.

We would like to thank CWHC Super Volunteers John West and Bob Henderson and CWHC Board Directors Linda Droine and Norm Playter who were instrumental in getting this project completed. Others who assisted were members of the CHWC Dining Car Committee, Jan Chamberlain, Seann O’Donoughue, Bill King, Brian Hopson and Bob Droine.

With the services and decking in place we are moving into the next phase, “Refurbishing the Dining Car Kitchen”. The CWHC recently received a $12,000 grant from the Community Foundation Grey Bruce for the renovation of the kitchen. We need to raise an additional $10,000 to purchase kitchen appliances and equip the kitchen so that it can be opened to the public in 2017!  The Dining Car kitchen is critical to the success of the entire Dining Car Project. Please join us in bringing the Dining Car Project closer to its completion by supporting our “Kitchen Kampaign”.
