Employment Opportunity 2018 – Summer Student – Museum Assistant

3 positions (pending grant approval)

Open to students currently enrolled in post-secondary institutions or within 6 months of graduation – minimum age of 15 years to 25 years, by the start date.

Start Date: No earlier than May 15, 2018

End Date: not later than September 3, 2018

Work Description:

– provide visitor service and tours of the museum, respond to public queries
- administrative duties such as; updating museum databases, telephone, processing donations, memberships, correspondence, cash handling

– assist in researching and preparing materials for exhibits, based on Owen Sound’s marine, rail and/or industrial history & create materials for community outreach programs

– assist with marketing and promotion (print material, media releases, social media, mail-outs, distribution)

– assist Collections in ensuring the artifacts are registered, accessioned, conserved, organized and stored properly
- assist with special events, fundraising and marketing activities for the museum

Experience & Skills Required:

– well-developed customer service experience a must

– well-developed professional communication skills, both verbal & written

– computer skills – proficiency in Word, Excel, PastPerfect an asset

– team building & organization

– must be able to multi-task effectively with constant interruptions

– museum experience an asset – acquisitions, artifact handling, archival research
